Day 52

The articles I read, and the conversations I have, and even the election of one man, cause me great sadness and concern for the future of this once great nation. It seems we follow the path of Israel of old: we are so wealthy, and had such ease that we no longer needed or desired to have You. And now we are poor, and just don’t know it.

We justify our poverty by coming up with excuses to remain there, or accept that the situation is still good, until we are overcome by our greed. But this has real consequences, especially for my family. Am I thinking incorrectly that the wonders I would see walking with You would somehow lift my family out from the coming national poverty?

A fair question. Israel was led into bondage by their great hubris; their greed and overconfidence led them to downfall. It was never My intent for it to be that way, but men choose their own path. Kings become full of themselves, believing they are omnipotent, yet all great kingdoms of man have failed. America is no exception.

When men choose their own path destruction always follows, for the enemy is wise in his destruction he will push man into believing he needs not God, that he is god, that he has reached the pinnacle of personal wisdom as God had always intended. That is a falsehood; to walk a true path man will always need Me there is no other way. I can lead through the desert, through the winding mountain passes, through the great storms of the sea. In these places I can provide nourishment, a direction, a true path.

Yes, the appearance of moving with the enemy can be deceiving for the one who follows My voice, yet it leads to the enemy’s destruction. You may walk the same direction, but I will prosper you along the way. I will provide for you and your family and I will lead you to a pasture of peace, provision, and wellness. In My high place you will always remain safe.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning, "My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrims' pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."

And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.

– Martin Luther King Jr. / I Have A Dream – Lincoln Memorial 1963
