An unexpected event is a means of discovery

Can some event happen 'to' me that appears negative in its potential outcome, or is everything 'for' me with the wonderful possibilities of something revealed about You I did not know before? In that way of thinking there are no negative events, that all are positive – for my good in what they are to reveal about me in my walk with You. It may be difficult to deal with the event, but I would think it likely to lead somewhere I will by happy to have travelled with You – somewhere undiscovered, somewhere I will be happy about when I look back on our journey together.

It’s difficult to anticipate in this environment but worth the effort, if only to not repeat the same pattern of the past in just trying to get through the event and move on with life. I need to develop a wisdom of welcoming these kinds of events; they will help me understand who I am.

You have grown into a truth – that an unexpected event is a means of discovery. If you knew in advance what is to occur, to try to prevent any negative consequence from occurring in your life, then your life would become one of avoidance – of events, of people, of understanding, of wisdom.

Further, what would you do if you knew a specific event were to happen, one which you knew was necessary to move through, if not for yourself but for another? Would you endure? Would it be possible for you to complete the task? Likely not.

You see that some events you call negative are not much to behold in themselves; it’s the dealing with them that gives you difficulty. Yet it is there you should be, for difficulty is the life of many and it is there where your help is needed. To avoid any event because of the difficulty of going through it is to avoid the miracle that might be within it. And that is the discovery I would have for you. There is no resurrection without the crucifixion – to put it in its most extreme circumstance.

It is good that you are beginning to welcome the possibility of seeing goodness manifested, that you are being revealed day by day, that there is nothing you cannot endure if we remain close. For I would be where you are, would walk with you through all things, would look with you at all possibilities to be revealed – and just perhaps there is something new for both of us to discover together. Isn’t that the best outcome we can believe for?
