Know that at his appearance you have within all to overcome

I have seen the look of the enemy. It is fear revealed that I have been discovered. In the past I would have run, tried to hide, and would fear his pursuit. Yet now I continue to stare at him, and still feel the fear, but do not seek to hide or run so much.

I wonder why he looks at me; what am I to him? Do I disturb his presence among so many others around him or does he just notice all? Is there something about me that draws his attention? Am I a risk?

Then I would stand firm in what little strength I perceive I have, yet knowing all along I can stand firm if I am with You. Perhaps he looks at me but sees You. Does evil depart to wait for a more opportune time?

This is but one of his appearances; you know of many others. His best is to offer the desires of your heart, but in ways that would flood your being with selfish desire, even at the promotion of good it might offer.

Would great wealth be an inducement for you to follow him? The testing of your faith in Me? Miracles by your hand that you might feed your own life? These, and many more, are freely offered by him – yet you know that with them comes the requirement to be as he is.

His visitations come in your weakness, when you feel powerless to resist, when you wander. Yet you have also seen that to stand with Me gives him no wherewithal to move against, no offer to speak, no gifts to provide.

But you have seen him now, and he is aware of us together, and would seek to move against us if there was any possibility to overcome; or why try at all? He would seek to separate, to cull you from My presence, to lead astray. But that is not possible for any length of time for I would seek the one that is lost, and you would know My voice once again.

Rise up, and know that at his appearance, in whatever form, you have within all to overcome. Would he tempt with riches? You have all the kingdom of God. Would he elevate you with wisdom, power, stature among men? You are My son. Would he induce you to use your power to provide all things, for you and others? Even now our kingdom is always at your disposal for the full expression of your heart. These are only his weapons, not given to you, but used to separate us.

But with your attention to the truth you will stand against his wiles and will reveal within you that which overwhelms what he would offer. You come with the great army of Peace, Wisdom, Prosperity, and Creation. Against these there is no victory.

THE PARABLE

"The One Who Did Not Look Away"

He had built it with his hands and his hours, this small thing he called his own - a workshop on the edge of town where men brought broken things and left with them whole. He was not famous. He was not rich. But in the town, if something needed making right, there was only one place to go.

Then came the morning when the stranger arrived.

He was dressed well, this man - too well for the neighborhood, too smooth for the hour. He carried a briefcase that seemed heavier than it looked, and he smiled the way men smile when they already know the answer to the question they are about to ask.

"I represent people," the stranger said, "who see what you have built here. They want to make you whole."

And he laid it on the table - a figure. A number. More than the shop could earn in years of good seasons. More than seemed possible. More than seemed fair.

The craftsman had seen men like this before. Once, long ago, he would have reached for the paper before the man had finished speaking. Desperation had made him quick like that -quick to grasp what was offered, slow to count what it would cost. He had run from hard rooms in those days, or hidden in the noise of busyness, or found ways to be elsewhere when the reckoning arrived.

But he did not reach for it now.

He sat quietly, the way a man sits when he is not alone in a room, even when he appears to be. And something he carried inside him - something older than the offer and quieter than the room - asked him a single question:

What would you have to become to take this?

Because the offer was not only money. He could feel that the way you feel weather before it arrives. To take the number on the paper was to take the man who brought it. To take his rescue was to take his vision. And his vision was not the same as the one that had built this shop, morning by morning, with hands that knew what they were doing and why.

"I'll need some time," the craftsman said.

The stranger smiled again - the same smile. "Of course. We're in no hurry."

But he did not move toward the door.

The craftsman looked at him then - not past him, not around him, but at him. The way you finally look at something you have decided, at last, not to run from. He held that gaze and felt the old fear rise in him, the familiar pull toward the side door, the excuse, the retreat. He felt it fully. And he did not move.

Something shifted in the room.

The stranger's smile became a different thing. Still there, but smaller. Like a lamp turned down by degrees.

"Is there something else?" the craftsman asked.

A long pause. Then the stranger picked up his briefcase.

"We'll be in touch," he said. And he left. The door closed behind him with a sound that was, somehow, final.

The craftsman sat alone. Outside, the morning was the same morning it had been. The work was still there. His tools were where he had left them.

He thought of his father, who had taught him to build before he taught him anything else. His father had said: "The man who knows what he has will never be poor, no matter what he is offered."

He did not know whether the stranger would return. Men like that often did - at worse hours, in harder seasons, when the hunger was sharper and the resistance thinner. But he knew this now, and he had not known it before:

The stranger had looked at him and had seen something that gave him pause. Not wealth - he had little. Not power - he had none. But something behind his eyes. Something not his own. Something older than this street and stronger than that briefcase. Something that had been watching the encounter from the beginning and had never once been afraid.

The craftsman picked up his tools and went back to work.

He was not the same man who had entered the shop that morning.

And the shop - it seemed, somehow, a little more his own.

A WISDOM THREAD

Six posts for the reader who stays

You know the feeling.

The offer lands.

The numbers are right.

The timing is right.

The logic is airtight.

And something in you goes quiet.

Not the good quiet.

The other one.

That’s the first sign.

🧵 On the thing that’s always offered right before the moment that matters most.

/1

The adversary doesn’t come loud.

He comes reasonable.

He comes with your real problems in his hands

and a real solution in the other.

He’s done his homework.

He knows exactly what you need.

The offer is not false. The money is real.

The relief is real.

What’s false is what it costs.

/2

Three things are always on the table.

Wealth.

Recognition.

Power to provide.

They have been offered the same way,

to the same kind of person,

since before the record began.

The tools haven’t changed.

What changes is whether you recognize them

before you reach for them.

/3

Here is the test underneath the test:

He offers you a counterfeit

of something you already own.

Wealth - you have the kingdom.

Recognition - you are known.

Power to provide - the provision is already underway.

He can only give you a cheaper version

of what you already carry.

This is why he needs you to forget

what you already have.

/4

Fear is not the enemy.

Fear is the announcement

that something real is at stake.

The man who does not run

still feels it.

He stays anyway.

/5

You come with the army of Peace, Wisdom, Prosperity, and Creation.

These are not weapons.

They are what you are.

Against what you already are,

there is no victory available

to what would seek to take it.

Stand.

You carry more than you know.

6/6

The enemy is real, his methods are specific and ancient, he times his approaches to weakness and wandering — but the relationship he's trying to break is the very thing that defeats him.

THE PRACTICE

The adversary within: what happens when you finally face the thing that has been facing you.

🧵Five invitations

I.

Find the thing in your present situation that you have been avoiding -

a person, a decision, a number, a conversation.

Don't act on it. Just look at it directly for one minute.

Notice that looking at it did not destroy you.

You are still here, after the looking.

This is the beginning of standing. Not resolution - just presence. Something in you is stronger than you have been acting as though it is.

This minute is the first evidence.

II.

Think of the last offer you were tempted by -

something that looked like rescue, relief, recognition, or reward.

Ask only this: What would I have to become to take it?

Not every offer is wrong. But some are dressed in what you need while carrying what you cannot afford.

The question itself is a kind of protection.

You don't need to answer it.

You only need to ask it.

III.

Name, quietly, Who accompanies you.

A presence. A voice from the past. A practice. A faith.

Then go back into the difficulty carrying that.

Notice what is different.

Not the difficulty - the you that meets it.

What felt like a siege may be a stalemate.

What looked like an open door may have already closed.

The room is different when two are in it.

The adversary has no foothold where he cannot find you alone.

IV.

At some point today, you will feel the pull toward what you do not have.

Wealth, recognition, power. Or simply relief.

When you feel it, pause.

Inventory what you already carry:

a mind that reasons, hands that work, a conscience that still speaks, relationships that have held.

These are not nothing. They are everything.

The adversary's offer is a copy of something you already hold.

He can only sell you what he stole.

V.

Before today ends, write one sentence - just one - about what you are building.

Not what you have. What you are building.

Read it back to yourself.

This is the thing no offer can touch: the making - the living work.

What is being constructed through faithfulness, difficulty, and the long patience of someone who does not run.

You are not only enduring.

You are building something that will outlast the encounter.

These are not techniques for gaining confidence. They are not a program.

They are invitations to notice what is already true.

You do not need to manufacture strength. You need only to stop hiding from the strength you have been given.

"For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 8.38–39 · ESV
